set · one word, one typeface
One title that sets type, moves it, draws it and marks it.
A typographic instrument for DaVinci Resolve. Everything happens to the letterform itself — so a stretch of the words can carry its own font, and a letter can be drawn rather than filled.
Works in DaVinci Resolve Free & Studio · Windows, macOS, Linux · Not sure yet? Try the free Lite version →
Everything below is a web demonstration, built from the plugin’s own settings and numbers. Inside Resolve, the same things are drawn in vector.
the emphasis tab
Style a stretch of the words, not the title.
Four independent Character Style ranges, on their own tab and worked one slot at a time. Each one takes a stretch of the text and gives it its own color, size, font, slant, stretch and outline — and every one of them is keyframable, so a range can travel across the words.
TypeKit sets the type
drag either handle — the range is a fraction of the text, so it keeps meaning the same words when the wording changes
Size scale reflows the layout — spacing, kerning and line widths adjust and the characters stay on the baseline. It is typesetting, not a scaled picture. Where two ranges overlap, the higher-numbered one wins.
published controls, by Inspector tab
Counted from the shipped 3.0 title: 405 controls, up from 329. The four Character Style slots are most of the Emphasis tab — more of TypeKit is per-range typography than is animation.
The whole text
Font, style, size, position, justify, tracking and line spacing. Multi-line, accented characters, and it adapts to any timeline resolution.
Transform
Slant X / Y and Stretch X / Y, keyframable, baked into the layout like tracking — so they cost nothing while the timeline plays.
Color, outline, shadow
Color with alpha, a geometric outline, and a soft drop shadow with angle, distance, opacity and softness.
Looks and presets
Twelve built-in Looks, and any number of your own saved by name — a preset carries every visual setting, gradient included, and never touches your text or animation. Saved beside the plugin, so a look you build survives the next update.
new in 3.0
The face of the letter, not just its shape.
Three releases went into how type moves. This one is about what it is made of — a fill that can be a gradient, an edge that catches light, and a way to keep every bit of it.
Gradient fill
Solid or gradient, and the gradient is Resolve’s own ramp control — the one you already use on Background and Text+ — with as many stops as you like. Direction, angle, spread, offset and reverse. The ramp only appears when you ask for it.
Bevel
Amount, depth, softness and light angle. It works on top of a gradient, which is harder than it sounds: the first build of it lost 91% of its strength the moment the fill stopped being flat.
Presets, by name
Save a look with a name and use it in any project. It carries all 107 visual settings including every gradient stop and its transparency — and it never touches your text, its size, or its animation. Any number of them, not three slots.
Three light sweeps
Not one. Three independent sweeps, each with its own angle, width, softness, position, speed and edge, so a highlight can cross the words while another sits still on the rim.
Live Motion
A title that has finished animating does not have to stand perfectly still. Sway, shake, rotate and scale, gently and continuously, with their own speed and delay.
Twelve Looks, rebuilt
The built-in Looks were redesigned around all of the above. Gold Shine is a real gradient with a bevel and a sweep running across it. Electric Blue is exactly as it was, because it did not need fixing.
the animate tab
You direct the motion.
There is no list to shop through. Build the animation once, tell it how to carry itself, and let it re-anchor every time you cut the clip.
your controls, while you do that
- In Duration40
- Stagger2.0
- In Strength0.05
- EasingEase Out
Not one of them moves. Feel re-reads the animation you built — its duration, travel, stagger, easing and overshoot — at render time. Untick it and the title plays exactly as you authored it, and a resting frame is identical either way.
Cut the clip. Both halves keep the whole animation.
Auto Fit reads the clip’s own frame range, so the entrance starts at whatever the head is now and the exit lands on whatever the tail is now. The durations you authored are never stretched — only the hold between them changes. Drag the cut, or use the arrow keys.
twelve animation effects, each with its own switch, all combinable
In and Out are independent — direction, strength, duration and delay each side, or synced. Animate by character, word or line; order forward, backward, from the center or at random; Ease Out, Elastic or Bounce. Six of the effects can carry a different amount on the way out, so an exit no longer has to mirror the entrance.
the sketch tab
Three ways to make a mark.
The letter can be drawn instead of filled, and it happens inside the title you already built — not instead of it.
A lower third reading “Marta Vidal, Director of Photography”, with one word of it drawn in pen strokes.
Pen reads the outlines out of the font file you chose and fills each letter with strokes. It is not a filter and not a library of pre-drawn letters — move the range and it draws whichever word is under it, in whatever font that word is in. Turn Scribble on as well and the raster chain deforms the drawing, because it never cared what produced the pixels.
The letter gains weight, and the line breathes.
Two things at once. The weight steps up and down on a hold of a few frames — Choppiness sets the hold, Glide decides whether it snaps or ramps, Smoothness how far apart consecutive values fall. And a vertical stretch runs underneath it on two out-of-step sines, identical for every character, so the whole line breathes as one block rather than wobbling letter by letter.

the plugin draws the weight as vector stroke, so it stays crisp at any resolution; here it is a text outline, and the numbers above are the real Look values
The letter is roughed up.
The original texture, and the one thing on this tab that works on the finished image rather than the letterform — which is exactly why it composes with everything above it. Four Looks, an optional second stroke, and its own roughness, wobble, choppiness and sharpness.
a noise displacement, the same idea the plugin uses — the values below each Look are its own
the effects tab
Type you can pick up.
Four effects on one title, and they stack. Turn them on together — the stage below is running whichever ones are lit. Cut Paper is underneath, drawn from the outline the engine itself computes.
A text selection drawn behind the words — a translucent block with a grab handle at each end, the knob on top at the start and underneath at the end. Draw On sweeps it across a character at a time; keyframe it back down and it retracts the way it arrived.
A soft band travels across the title and lights only the letters it crosses — the wash is clipped to the text, never a beam over the shot. Auto Sweep loops it; leave it off and Position places the band by hand.
Four blurs at one, five, twenty and sixty-six times the radius, added together and tinted. Quality chooses how many of the four are used — which is why it reads as a halo rather than a single soft edge. Edge sits beside it on the same tab.
Every letter on its own scrap, in its own ink, on stock from the Look’s own palette — these are the plugin’s real palettes. A Look is a whole art direction rather than a colorway: it also decides which typefaces the title may be set in, how often a letter is cut to its outline instead of a rectangle, and how hard the press ran. Seed makes it repeatable on every machine.

Not a drawing of the effect — this is the outline the plugin itself computes, exported
from the engine and shown as vector. The blade cannot reach into a notch narrower than
Smoothness allows, which is why a close cut follows every foot of a letter while a generous
one leaves the calm slab. Hand Cut is the wander in the line.
the inspector
The whole panel, and nothing behind glass.
The five real tabs with their real groups, defaults and ranges. Load a look and the rows it actually writes light up — which is the fastest way to learn where anything lives.
tracking retracks every heading on this page
measured, not estimated
The part you only notice when it’s missing.
0.8ms
a resting frame, replayed from cache
14.4ms
a draft frame while the timeline plays
8
resting titles on screen at once, each rendered once
13ms
a blurred frame — down from 36, once the engine renders only the strip the ink can reach
Measured on a heavy title — 36 characters with outline, shadow and blur — on a real timeline. Renders and exports never receive a draft frame.
One activation, then offline
A key covers three machines you personally edit on. After the first activation the plugin never needs the internet again.
Every version stays
1.0 through 2.0 are all downloadable from August, and updates reach you from here rather than a marketplace mailing list.
Subtitles too
Style a title, drag it into the Media Pool and pick it in AutoSubs, and every subtitle carries the same fonts, colors and animation.
Free Resolve
Built on Resolve’s own text tools, so a Studio license is not required. Windows, macOS and Linux.
and what it does not do
- Pen needs outlines it can read. TrueType and OpenType/CFF fonts work, collections included; CID-keyed CFF fonts do not.
- An idle loop — Wave, Pulse, Flicker, a cursor — keeps a title rendering every frame, because there is no resting frame to hold.
- The Blur effect is skipped while the timeline plays unless you ask for it. Pausing, scrubbing, rendering and exporting always show it.
- Change Timeline › Playback Resolution while the timeline is paused. Switching it mid-playback can freeze Resolve itself.
what happens next
About a minute.
- 1Download and unzip. The engine, the title template, one-click installers for Windows, macOS and Linux, and the guides.
- 2Run the installer for your system. It only touches VND TypeKit files, and it moves any earlier version to a backup folder rather than deleting it.
- 3Restart Resolve. The title appears under Effects › Titles › VND › VND TypeKit.
- 4Paste your key. During install, or in the Inspector at the bottom of the Text tab. The Status line tells you where you stand.
